The first Park Place Neighborhood Run for Fun was a great success. The 5k course went through the park trails, participants did not have to worry about cars as they ran/walked the course. The weather was perfect for the race. We had 27 runners and walkers, two of which were pregnant. Nurse Betsy kept a close eye on them. One family had 3 generations participating; grandmother, son and grandson.
After crossing the finish line, participants enjoyed a breakfast of fresh fruits, donuts, Twinkies, Ding Dongs, orange juice and plenty of water. There were even some cheeseburgers for those who were really hungry.
As with all events, many volunteers were involved in organizing of this event. Very special thanks go to:
- Betsy Smelcer, our on-site nurse whose presence made everyone breathe a little easier. Thankfully there were no injuries or heat problems.
- Steve Goodman, race organizer and coordinator; without his expertise we could not have pulled this off as easily and smoothly as we did.
- The PPNA Social Committee Members who always do a great job of helping out whenever and wherever they are needed.
- The PPNA Board who faithfully encourage, participate, and cheer on all neighborhood events.
Local businesses who helped out with donations:
- Fossil Creek Animal Hospital
- J C Donuts
- City Garage
- Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market
- Sportherapy
- Whataburger
